Spring is here and we are all looking forward to getting back to the Garden – watching it come to life makes our hearts happy.

A big thank you to Pete Pritchard for being our Co-chair of the Friends of the Old Seed House Garden for many years.   He has retired from that position but will continue to be part of the hard working volunteer team.  We would like to welcome our new Co-chair, Wayne Leitch.  He has been a diligent volunteer for several years.  We look forward to his guidance & knowledge.

The Garden was accessible all winter due to the lack of snow.  It looked beautiful with the snow adorning the plants.  Of course – Light up the Hills – turned the Garden into magic for six weeks during that time of year.

Unfortunately, two trees were damaged this winter.  We are not sure if it was snow, wind, or vandalism.  One tree will have to be replaced.  Hopefully the other one will survive with some tender loving care.

We are delighted about two new “things” that will be happening at the Garden this year.

The first “thing” is the result of us being awarded a Town of Halton Hills Legacy Grant to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Town of Halton Hills.  This grant was given out to four deserving groups.  We are going to keep you guessing about “our thing” until we have more definite information. 

The second “thing” is that there is going to be “Music in the Garden” at the Gazebo, every other Sunday, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm, during the summer months.  We have already lined up a wide range of local talent for your enjoyment.  Watch for more information on our kiosk bulletin board at the Garden.

New volunteers are always welcome.  You do not need gardening experience – just be available on Tuesday mornings from 9:00am until noon.  We have fun, make new friends, work “hard” & play in the dirt.  It is all worth it when we hear many compliments about how wonderful the gardens are.

Did you know that you can have your special occasion at the Garden – birthday parties, Christenings, weddings, graduations & just about any kind of celebration.  Contact the Town of Halton Hills.  The rent is very reasonable and a share of those funds go back towards supporting the Garden.

Raising money is important to us in order to buy the plants, tools, etc. for the Garden.  We are selling beautiful note cards with pictures of the Garden on them.  Potted Dahlias and bare root Cannas will be sold on Tuesday morning when we are at the Garden.  The note cards will be sold at the same time.

Our major fundraiser is our lily sale in July.  We dig up & sell bunches of lovely lilies ready for you to plant.  Watch the kiosk for more information.
