Winter Newslettter
It is hard to believe that it is already January & that we at last have some snow. There have been lots of strong winds & rain over the holiday season. Talk about strange weather! All these weather systems are great for the Garden. The plants need the moisture to help nourish them over the winter. They also need the snow to protect them from freezing.
On the whole, the weather was pretty good last year & the Gardens all thrived. There were beautiful flowers during all the seasons. As usual, the fish pond was visited by lots of children & adults alike.
We have a great team of volunteers spending hundreds of hours doing all kinds of jobs in the Garden. You name it & they do it! Everyone worked well together & so many “garden” things were accomplished.
Thanks to donations, there are several new trees & shrubs in the Garden.
Last summer was our inaugural Music in the Garden. It was a big hit, with both vocal and instrumental groups preforming on various Sunday afternoons. Music in the Garden will happen again this summer on Sundays but from 3:00 to 5:00. Stay tuned for updates on dates in late Spring.
Our Legacy sculpture is new to the Garden. We were awarded a Legacy grant from the Town. The sculpture needs to be seen to be appreciated. It consists of 3 large metal flowers – a lily, an iris & a peony. This sculpture is located to the left of the kiosk as you enter from the parking lot.
If you would like to be a volunteer – A Friend of the Old Seed House Garden – there is information on this website about how do so. It is really easy if you love gardening & do not mind getting dirty hands. Come & join us on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to noon at the Garden. You will be made very welcome.
Besides tending the Gardens, we raise money to buy plants, flowers, shrubs, tools, fertilizer, etc. We are selling packets of lovely note cards with pictures of the Gardens on them. Purchase a pack for yourself and they make great gifts for family and friends – see donations tab on this website.
There are also a number of trees & bushes that can be purchased throughout the Garden.
We also gratefully accept monetary donations. We would love to hear from you. See donations tab on this website.
The Gardens are beautiful at this time of year with the snow covering the plants & making interesting shapes to enjoy. Be sure to check it out.
Stay warm. Stay healthy. Stay safe.
