At the time of writing this newsletter, its mid-July, halfway through summer. Temperatures have been generally a little above seasonal to date. To help your garden deal with summer heat and drought add some compost or a light layer of mulch plus an occasional morning watering.
Dominion Gardens are looking beautiful as always. Thank you, to all the visitors, that comment on how wonderful the gardens look. Thanks to our volunteers as well.
Music In the Garden is back this summer, every other Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00. There have been two performances already. Check out the remaining dates and performers on the ‘Old Seedhouse Garden’ website. We have had wonderful performances, and the events have been very well attended. Remember to bring a lawn chair, a hat and some water.
A new addition to Dominion Gardens is a rain garden or bioswale. Previously, rainwater from the parking area ran through the gardens via a ‘drainage ditch’ to a stormwater pond. Native plants preferring moist soils to slightly moist conditions have been planted along the rainwater runoff path. This is a long-term project. Over the next couple years, we will extend the garden with a variety of different native species towards to the stormwater pond.
Cat the rock caterpillar is back this summer too. Kids, young and old, can paint a rock and add it to Cat the rock caterpillar in the garden near the garden shed.
Come, stroll through the various garden areas and enjoy. There are several picnic tables in the gardens if you would like to bring a lunch or snack and just sit a while.
We are always looking for volunteers to help in the gardens. You don’t need gardening expertise to contribute. Our weekly volunteer day is Tuesday from 9:00 to noon. We provide any tools required.
Hope you will join the Friends of the Old Seed House Garden.
