It has been a busy year at the Garden. Our volunteers worked very hard since April and will continue to make the Garden a beautiful place until it is too cold.
In the Spring we planted over 1200 annuals to add colour to the Garden. Even though our weather was strange this summer, the Garden was the best it has been in years. The plants grew better and taller than usual. The colours were spectacular.
A Dahlia Garden was planted beside the shed. They grew fast and tall in no time at all. Some of the blooms are as big as dinner plates. The colour combinations of the flowers were amazing!
Music in the Garden was presented for the third year. Many people attended the shows and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, two had to be cancelled due to rain.
The swale area under the bridge was redone this year thanks to a grant we received through Credit Valley Conservation Foundation. New river rocks were added after the area was dug to allow the water to flow more efficiently. Hundreds of native water plants were planted in this area. It was a tremendous amount of work for our volunteers but I hope you agree that it was worth it. It will become more amazing each year as the plants grow.
A few overgrown bushes and a dead tree were removed. Many bushes were trimmed back – to help them fill out and to add to the appearance to the Garden.
An edging was put around our lovely iris garden to make it look even better.
There is a new donor board in the walled garden. Also, a new window on the kiosk was installed.
We invite you to join us on Saturday, October 31 at 9:00 until noon to help us put the Garden to bed. We will pull all the annuals, trim back plants, rake leaves and do whatever is necessary to prepare the Garden for the Spring. Bring your family and join in the fun. Students – you can earn volunteer hours.
When we are working in the Garden, we appreciate the many positive comments about how beautiful it looks.
It would be great if you would consider becoming “a friend” of the Old Seed House Garden. We meet at the Garden on Tuesday mornings from 9 – noon. You do not need any gardening experience. We will help you learn. It is great to be outside in the fresh air, great exercise, and you make new friends. You also have the good feeling of helping in your community.
We have a Facebook page and because you are reading this, you know that we have a web page.
